Almost everyone enjoys the taste of sweet things. So it’s no wonder why sugars are added to all kinds of foods and drinks, from sodas to baked goods.

Sugar is a natural ingredient that has been part of the human diet for thousands of years. While there are many types, brown and white sugar are among the most popular varieties. In fact, most brown sugar is a mixture of white sugar and molasses, which is a type of sugar-derived syrup. Molasses is responsible for their darker color and slightly increase their nutritional value. Hence, it is a bit of a generic term — it’s simply sugar that contains molasses, with the molasses giving it that distinctive brown color and flavor.

There are two ways to make brown sugar.  One way is to extract it before the white sugar-making process is complete. Such sugar is very dark, sticky, and difficult to use because of the sticky molasses it contains. It is also called demerara sugar. The second way is to make organic white sugar and then a part of the organic molasses is added back in controlled quantities to make it. Such sugar is not sticky and easy to use, but the molasses separate out when dissolved in water. This looks like brown “color”. This is the way most brown sugar is made and exported all over the world, and our brown sugar is made the same way. Rest assured our Brown Sugar is completely natural and 100% Certified Organic.

Refined brown sugar is simply white sugar that has molasses added back into it. Meanwhile, whole, unrefined brown sugar undergoes less processing than white sugar, allowing it to retain some of its molasses content and natural brown color.

What are its Benefits?

There are limited studies showing the benefits of organic brown sugar by itself. However, as an additive, it offers several health benefits by providing people with energy and acting as a tasty flavor enhancer to encourage healthier eating. The brown sugar benefits are linked to its molasses content. This sugar is often used in the baking process and is rich in vitamins and minerals. The unique health benefits of organic brown sugar include its ability to boost energy levels, prevent colds, treat uterine infections, improve digestion, reduce flatulence, and aid in weight management, just to name a few.
