Frequently Asked Questions
Are sooji and rava the same?
Yes. It is called suji or sooji in North India and rava in South India. In English it is known as semolina.
How is it different from Chiroti Rava and Whole Wheat Sooji?
Chiroti Rava is finer and suits rava dosa, chiroti and smooth sweets. Whole Wheat Sooji is milled with the bran, so it is browner and nuttier. Regular Sooji/Rava is the everyday all-rounder for upma, rava idli and sheera.
Do I need to roast sooji before cooking?
It depends on your recipe. For upma, rava idli and sheera, roast it on low heat until it smells aromatic. Roasted sooji gives fluffier upma and softer rava idlis.
